There is some progress in the background, but I have personally been very busy with a job change and moving to a new city. Moving into our new appartment on sunday and hopefully there will be some time for this project around later September.

The current plan is to support and extend the CI-build functionality that comes with TFS 2008, there is lots of cool things that can be done on top of that platform. We would like to integrate with Microsoft Visual Studio Team System Web Access and avoid having a seperate web application for Automaton.
I have a problem. I installed Automaton (nice program, btw) but I can’t get event notification to work. Installation went OK, I can connect to Team Foundation Server, can see projects and builds, can manually run builds.

But, when I click on Enable Events I get this error:
"SecurityException: TF50309: You do not have sufficient permissions to perform this operation.
Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Proxy.EventService.SubscribeEvent(String userId, String eventType, String filterExpression, DeliveryPreference preferences) +50
..."

Also clicking on finish after completing configuration wizard gets me this error:
"When this wizard is completed, you can navigate to settings to individually configure and manage the applied settings.
Failed to apply configuration settings.
TF50309: You do not have sufficient permissions to perform this operation."

Any thoughts on which permissions user account needs to be able to complete settings wizard and subscribe to events?
Also, because it starts immediately it doesn't seem equipped to handle situations where multiple changesets are generated in a short period of time (a delay before the GET initiates would seem to make sense there). Well, I got the builds to happen automatically - I may not have been waiting long enough previously. Part of the problem is that the TFS projects we use are large (over 1.1 GB), and structured like this:

$/ProjectRoot/Branch1Name/Project1
$/ProjectRoot/Branch1Name/Project2
...
$/ProjectRoot/Branch1Name/ProjectX
$/ProjectRoot/Branch1Name/Lib
$/ProjectRoot/Branch1Name/Shared
$/ProjectRoot/Branch2Name/Project1
...
$/ProjectRoot/Branch3Name/Project1
etc.

I noticed that when I check in a file, it causes a GET to happen immediately from $/ProjectRoot to the /temp directory. I'm not sure of the purpose of this GET, but it seems to be very inefficient because it gets ALL source under $/ProjectRoot, and not just the branch where the checkin occurs. Can someone explain exactly how automaton knows which paths to monitor to fire a build from a checkin event? We use custom Team Build types, and the SolutiontToBuild items are not set until the AFTERGET target. I thought that perhaps automaton may use the solution path to determine which directories and subdirectories a checkin event should cause a build, but when I tested this by adding some dummy proj files to the SolutionToBuild item in TFSBuild.proj, it still didn't cause a build when items were checked in.

We don't use solutions in some of our Team Builds because we use Delphi 2007 (msbuild compatible). I was able to get Team Builds working for this code base, but for some reason Automaton doesn't seem to recognize checkin events for these build types.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Hello all developers!

As you understand by now, I have little time left to do project management of Automaton. I will try to improve in the future, but I was hoping that each and one of you can take some individual responsiblity and take on tasks on your own.

I'm experienced with the Scrum project process which requires strong individuals, and I'm sure all of you are that type of people. Please feel free to move tasks and features in the Issue Tracker to your own names, and start coding.

Don't be afraid of doing things wrong, it's much better that you all contribute than doing nothing. If there is any problems or questions, feel free to nag me on Live Messenger or here on the forum.
I would second this question. I also find the default annoying. Maybe an option in WebConfig if not an option elsewhere.
Is there a way to disable continuous integration by default when a new build is created?

I am using Automaton to connect to a TFS server and not all the project owners want to use continuous integration. When a new project is created it has CI enabled by default and some people aren't happy with this. Is there a way i can specify the default to no enable CI?
I have added a second build type to Team Build and it is now being displayed in the Team Builds list on the dashboard, however, when I make changes in the source tree and check in, automaton still does not kick off the build.

- There are no filters in the subscribed events that automaton setup.
- There are POST to the automaton webservice so I know that the TFS Notification is working as excepted.

What could cause this? Is there any way for me to peek into what automaton is doing once it receives the request to figure out why it's not calling out to start the Team Build.

Also, this got me thinking, how does automaton know which build to execute? I have two different solutions within different paths of my Team Project source tree, with corresponding Team Build types (does it inspect the Team Build Type mapping xml?).
