Did you ever think of using MSMQ to queue up the builds. Because of the many different ways a build can get triggered on different threads we see lots of race conditions with CI build ordering. Also a crash in IIS or an IIS reset causes all the builds to be canceled as the state of the application and queued builds are lost. Queueing up the builds via the web UI into MSMQ and having the service project peek and pop builds off the Queue in the background. This would make all builds triggered by automaton processed in the exact order they were queued up even if the machine is rebooted.

This is a good suggestion but it will require that MSMQ is installed on the server. Potentially we could do a check to see if MSMQ is installed and if so, we could use that for queues.

Another possibility is a disk based solution.
